I want to hear YOU.

I've updated the site a bit, changed the logo that I didn't like, added comments and download counter. The version 1.7 is almost done - I've added color configuration and a list of network inferfaces with checkboxes next to them for your ease of use. I'm also preparing for plugins - so that you can (if you know c#) write a new graph representation or so that you can switch off plugins that you don't use.

Thanks for writing such a great program and sharing it. It is much appreciated.

I have a question... Is it possible to track which applications and which connections are using the bandwidth? That would be a killer feature in your app.

Yes it is possible, but it would require to rewrite a big portion of FM. I was thinking about it and I've got it written in my plans for FM. I can't say when I'll do it but don't expect it anytime soon.

Do you have any plans to have an e-mailing list for when you update the program? I'd be interested in subscribing. I think the program has a lot of potential, and I currently use it, but I want to stay up to date on it's progress...In particular I want to stay up to date on the current bugs I've noticed:

1. One of the older version (sorry, not sure which) had automatic graph scaling. It appears to still be in this version, but trying to check off the auto scale option doesn't work the same. It moves the scale 1 step in the correct direction, then stops on that graph scale until you try to click the automatic scale again, or manually select a scale.

2. There's absolutely no logical sorting for the daily totals log. I Only have 2 months history, so I can't determine any sorting issues for that yet.

3. The transfer stats data isn't written to a file until you exit the program. If the program or your computer crashes, you lose all transfer stats for the period that it was running. (for me, this could be several months)

I currently run Windows Vista Business SP2 on my computer.

Follow up to Paul P's question:

Would it be easier to track by IP address? I stream videos from my computer over the local network, and of course that inflates my upload figure by hundreds of GB's.

It would be very easy for me to just specify a list of IP's to either ignore or segregate the stats by.

@MuntainDW

No, no plans for e-mailing list. You can subscribe to rss, I'll be posting all info regarding FM here so it's the fastest way. Besides FM has update notification...

Yes it's a bug.

I'll have to look into that - it may be a bug.

Yeah, I'll be saving it every minute or so in 1.7.

"It would be very easy for me to just specify a list of IP's to either ignore or segregate the stats by."

Yeah, but no offense I've got more important things to do than implementing custom features that 1% of users would like to have. Don't get me wrong, but I stopped using FM a while ago (I don't care about bandwith anymore) and the only reason that I'm still adding features and maintaining it is because I feel that I shouldn't leave it like this... I don't want it to become vaporware. The best thing is that I get an email almost every week about how cool it would be to have feature X, Y and Z... and amount of donations? 0.

Would it be possible to add a checkbox to disable auto-update notification?

I remember Freemeter used to hae that annoying issue where on startup it would always say something like "your version is newer than the current version", just because the site wasn't updated.

Great app, it's much appreciated. Hunted around for ages for a good simple clean app, especially one that doesn't need admin rights to run. On 1.6.3615 I'm experiencing the same issue withe autoscale not working, and it was a great feature of the earlier versions (1.5.2873 for example) which I'll go back to until 1.7 since while it's buggy the auto scale is worth it.

I'll second disable the auto update and an email list for updates instead.

Also you should try and get further up the google results list ^_^

Disabling updates - I think that I've fixed that already (will be available in next version)

Auto Scale - noted, will be fixed in next ver.

"Also you should try and get further up the google results list" - now that is something that I don't know how to do to be honest... I try to design and do my sites so that they will be nicely indexed by google, but it takes time I think...

@miechu

Latest ZoneAlarm Extreme Security version:9.1.507.000 w/latest updates, which is available as "trial" (mine is not.) ZoneAlarm puts downloads in a quarantined place and runs them and scans their activity before giving option to save, etc.

Downloading the zip file produces a statement that ZoneAlarm's regular security scan could not ascertain status and gives option for additional scan, which is Heuristic (Kerpinsky?). That scan produces a warning that it finds the file malicious. "Click for details" says "This file is "_zombie_" software that silently terminates itself each time it is run, causing no immediate harm to arouse the suspicion of antivirus software. However, when certain conditions on your PC arise, or when it receives instructions from a remote hacker, it can execute malicious commands." It then recommends deletion of the file.

@Miyamoto

well... it must be a false positive since I don't do that kind of stuff & checking downloaded file with McAfee doesn't result in anything found... I'll send them a mail about this. Thanks for the info.

I'm confident you don't... You're welcome.

Is there a possibility of someone else, or a suspect graphics program doing the jpg files? I'm pretty sure Zone uses a Kaspersky engine, but your award includes a scan from actual Kaspersky, which did not include the jpg files.

I've been running the older version available at Sourceforge, which has shown no anomaly. I'll check back occasionally for updates.

Thanks.
